Allergens and food contact
This page lists the allergen information for every food we list and the status of every food-contact declaration. The label on the pack you receive is the final word, because recipes and packing sites can change. If a label and this page disagree, follow the label and tell us.
Allergens in our foods
EU Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011 lists 14 allergens that must be declared. Here is how they relate to each food.
| Product | Declared allergens | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fystiki Aiginas PDO pistachios, roasted with sea salt | Nuts (pistachios) | Pistachios are tree nuts. Not suitable for people with a tree nut allergy. Check the pack for may-contain warnings from the packing site. |
| Krokos Kozanis PDO saffron | None expected | Pure stigmas in the cooperative pack. Confirm on the label. |
| Chios mastiha tears | None expected | Natural resin. Confirm on the label. |
| Vostizza currants | Confirm on the label | Dried fruit can be treated with sulphites. Sulphur dioxide and sulphites above 10 mg/kg must be declared. We will state the result for our supplier’s pack here once it is signed. |
| Menalon fir honey, Cretan pine and thyme honey | None of the 14 | Not for babies under 12 months. |
| Kolymvari and Kalamata PDO olive oils | None of the 14 | |
| Mountain tea (Sideritis) | None of the 14 | A herbal infusion. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication, ask a pharmacist before regular use of any herbal tea. |
No region box currently contains nuts, and neither does the Name day tin. If that changes, the box will be marked on its product page.
Food-contact objects
Objects meant to touch food must comply with Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, which requires that they do not transfer their components into food in quantities that could endanger health. Some materials have extra rules. No food-contact object is sold until its declaration or test is on file.
| Object | Required | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Sifnos skepastaria (clay cooking pot) | Lead and cadmium migration test results under Directive 84/500/EEC, and a declaration of compliance | Pending Not for sale until received |
| Metsovo hand-carved wooden spoon | Declaration of compliance under Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004, including the finish used | Pending Not for sale until received |
| Olive oil tins | Food-contact compliance of the tin, held by the PDO bottler | Pending Requested with the supplier contract |
When a declaration arrives we will link a summary from the product’s origin record and change its status here.
