Central Greece

The region stretching from Mount Parnassos to the island of Euboea and out to Skyros.

PINAX has no object from Central Greece at launch. Two leads are under research. On Parnassos grows Sideritis raeseri, one of the Greek mountain tea species assessed by the European Medicines Agency; we would sell only cultivated stock, with an organic certificate and proof of cultivation, as we do for the Olympus stems. On Skyros, woodcarvers make the small carved Skyrian stool, a miniature chair, from maple, wild olive, mulberry or walnut.

Skyros is known across Greece for ceramics, woodcarving and embroidery, and trohadia, leather-strap sandals, carry a name found only on the island.

A caution we have already found: many Skyrian wall plates in old houses were imported Delft and other European ware, so not every Skyros object is local. Nothing is listed until a maker is audited and we have seen the piece made in a workshop on the island.
