Kalamata PDO extra virgin olive oil, 500 ml tin, harvest-dated
Λάδι Καλαμάτας
Extra virgin olive oil registered as Kalamata PDO, from Messinia in the Peloponnese, in a harvest-dated 500 ml tin. The record explains why a bare ‘Kalamata’ label proves nothing.

About this object
What it is
A 500 ml tin of extra virgin olive oil under the Kalamata Protected Designation of Origin, dated with its harvest year.
Where and how it is made
Messinia, in the south-west Peloponnese (GR-J). We intend to buy from a Messinian bottler certified for the PDO, and to sell the tin exactly as it is filled.
How to use it
Over tomatoes, grilled vegetables or warm chickpeas, or as the finishing oil on revithada. Store the tin closed, away from heat.
What we have not verified yet
First, the naming trap. A bare ‘Kalamata’ on a bottle is not the PDO. Since a Greek ministerial decision of December 2016, raised in the European Parliament in 2017, ‘Kalamata’ may be used as a synonym for the Kalamon olive variety wherever it is grown. Only the full PDO wording and certification prove origin. Second, what is still open on our side: no bottler is signed. Maker: [partner to be sourced]. The harvest year of the first tins is unknown. Tins go by courier, and US orders need FDA Prior Notice.
